Banned Books Week 2006

The West Long Branch Public Library will be celebrating Banned Books Week during the week of September 23-30, 2006. The theme of this year’s celebration is: Celebrating the Freedom to Read. The American Library Association states, “For the first time, Americans can log onto the (ALA) Banned Books Week Web site and vote for their favorite challenged book - from "Captain Underpants" to "Of Mice and Men." Organized by age group, the books all have faced expulsion from U.S. schools and libraries in the last 25 years. Votes will be tallied and announced Monday, October 2.” We encourage you to go to the ALA Banned Books Web Site here to vote. Please visit the library and view our display of Banned Books and as free people check out a "Banned Book." Celebrate your freedom to read and don't take this precious democratic freedom for granted!
