West Long Branch Public Library offers children's programming every Wednesday for toddlers, preschool and school age children, with our Children's Librarian Connie Lyons. Did you know that we have an interesting and informative New Jersey collection within our library? It offers both historical and reference materials. Samples of these have been placed on the front table by the Circulation Desk. Staff member Sharon Hazard recommended many of them. She is a published author and historical researcher. Sharon was photo editor for The Encyclopedia of New Jersey, which we have in our collection. Please stop in and discover these valuable New Jersey resources!

The West Long Branch Public Library Book Discussion Group has read a variety of books over the past two years. The selection of books is based on our mission to expand our knowledge of authors and engage in enjoyable, informal discussions to encourage our thoughts, insights and laughter. The 5th Annual 2006 Helen R. Shultz Library Scholarship was awarded on August 1st to Stephenie Acosta of Monmouth County Library in Manalapan, NJ. Stephenie is in charge of cataloging children's material for MCL Headquarters and all ten branch libraries. Stephenie is studying for her Masters in Information and Library Science at the University of Pittsburgh, Pa. The Friends of the West Long Branch Public Library offers the Helen Shultz Scholarship to encourage people in West Long Branch and Monmouth County to train for a career in librarianship. The scholarship awards $1000.00 for an academic year to one student who lives in West Long Branch or Monmouth County and has been accepted into a library science or paraprofessional library program. The Friends, Board of Trustees and staff of the West Long Branch Public Library congratulates Stephenie and wishes her the best in of luck in her future studies!
The Friends of the West Long Branch Public Library present the art exhibit for August 2006 entitled "People, Places and Things I Remember." This exhibit features photographs of regions visited by the Friends of Photography. The exhibit is on display in our Meeting Room during regular library hours. There will also be a "Meet the Artists" reception in the library on Friday, August 4th from 7 to 9 PM.
