Diabetes Education Series - May 5th, 12th and 19th

One in eight people have diabetes. Many more care for patients or have relatives who have diabetes. Do you know the physical risk factors for diabetes? Dr. Anup, MD of ARAM Total Health Management of America, will present a series of Diabetes Education Seminars at the library on May 5th, 12th and 19th from 7 to 8 pm. Anyone interested in learning about diabetes is welcome to attend. The seminars are free to the public and will be held in our Meeting Room. Registration is not necessary.

April Art Exhibit - "Small Works Show" by Lisa Marie

The Friends of the West Long Branch Public Library present the art exhibit for April 2008 featuring a collection of original small works in mixed media by Lisa Marie of Monmouth Beach. The exhibit will be on display in our Meeting Room during regular library hours from April 4th through 29th. The Friends of the Library sponsor a series of monthly art exhibits in our Meeting Room all year long. We encourage you to stop in and view Lisa Marie's artwork! Book Discussion Group April Selection: Women of the Silk by Gail Tsukiyama

During the month of April the West Long Branch Public Library's Book Discussion Group will be reading Women of the Silk by Gail Tsukiyama. This first novel tells the story of Pei, a Chinese woman who works in the silk factories in early twentieth century China. This is a rich portrait of a woman's life in a China now lost.

Friends of the Library Annual Open House Meeting - April 6th

The Friends of the West Long Branch Public Library will sponsor their Annual Open House Meeting at the library on Sunday, April 6th from 2 to 5 PM. This meeting is open to the public and refreshments will be available. The guest speaker for the event will be local resident and library employee Sharon Hazard, author of Long Branch in the Golden Age: Tales of Fascinating and Famous People and Long Branch: A Postcard History. Sharon will talk about the history of Long Branch and about her experiences writing these books. A limited number of copies of these two books will be available for purchase and you will be able to have them signed by Sharon at the event. If you are interested in joining the Friends as an active volunteer, this is a great opportunity for you to see what the group is all about.

2008 Helen R. Shultz Library Scholarship

To encourage people to train for a career in the library profession, the Friends of the West Long Branch Public Library offers the 7th Annual 2008 Helen R. Shultz Scholarship.

This scholarship awards $1000.00 for the 2008/2009 academic year to one student that lives in West Long Branch or Monmouth County and has been accepted into a library science or paraprofessional library program. To be eligible for the scholarship, the student should be accepted into a library science or paraprofessional library program by July 1, 2008.

Interested applicants must send a resume and cover letter stating their professional goals to:
