2008 Summer Reading Program

Catch the Reading Bug this summer at the West Long Branch Public Library and discover the amazing world of insects!

The 2008 Summer Reading Program is open to book enthusiasts from preschool through middle school, with a Read-To-Me club, Vacation Reading Club, special entertainment programs and raffle prize drawings.

Sign-ups for "Catch the Reading Bug" begin today, Wednesday, June 18th. The summer reading club officially begins on Monday, June 23rd and ends on Wednesday, August 20th.

We will have special programming in the library for the beginning, middle and end of summer reading, kicking off with “Never Say ‘Ugh’ to a Bug,” today, June 18th starting at 3:30 pm (ages 3 and up) and ending with Dawnie from the Peanut Butter 'n' Jammin’ Band on Wednesday, August 20th at 3:00 pm. Also, on Wednesday, July 23rd at 3:30 pm, as part of the special summer programming, the library will present the children's program "Wallaby Tales," featuring live animals in a fun and informative show for ages 5 and above.

Book Discussion Group June Selection: The Lay of the Land by Richard Ford

During the month of June the West Long Branch Public Library’s Book Discussion Group will be reading The Lay of the Land by Richard Ford. This is Richard Ford’s first novel in over a decade and resumes the story of Frank Bascombe. Bascombe is now a realtor on the Jersey shore and is contending with health, marital, and familial issues.

“Ford manages to become his character and remove authorial boundaries, transforming his novel into a story told to us by an old friend. A fitting way to complete the Frank Bascombe legacy.”
