Thank You!

Referendum Update: Supporters of the library came out in full force on Monday night at Borough Hall, in what was one of the largest demonstrations of support for a local issue in years. The huge turnout was so overwhelming that the borough council decided to abandon the planned referendum to change the library's identity. The West Long Branch Public Library thanks you, our exceptional customers, for your help and the support that you show for your free public library!

So Long!

After nearly six years as Director of the West Long Branch Public Library, I will be leaving to accept a new job with the State Library on Friday, August 22nd. It has been the greatest pleasure being associated with the best small public library in New Jersey. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Library Board of Trustees for their support on our many projects designed to provide innovative service for the community. I'd also like to thank my exceptionally talented, creative and capable staff, truly the best staff that a person in my position could hope to have. I would also like to thank you, our wonderful customers, for your patronage and devotion to this library. I have had many goals, but these were the main ones: to provide you with the very best library collection, personalized customer service, great public-use technology and an open, comfortable environment that I hope you think of as your home away from home. I will miss you all. My Best, David Lisa.

Keep Our Library Ours!

The West Long Branch Borough Council is attempting to change the library’s status from a municipal library to a branch library of the Monmouth County Library System.

Don’t allow the West Long Branch Borough Council to give your library away! Find out what a change in library status means to you and what impact it will have on the services and staff of the hometown library we all love so much.

Please join us on Monday, August 18th at 5:00 pm at Borough Hall on Broadway and offer your support to enforce the West Long Branch Public Library’s identity as a municipal library. With the change being considered by the Borough council, we will risk losing our autonomy, control, staff members and many of the services you have grown accustomed to.

The time to defend the library’s status is NOW! Help us fight for our library's identity!

August Art Exhibit - "Visual Innovations" by E. Michael Horn

The Friends of the West Long Branch Public Library present the art exhibit for August 2008 entitled "Visual Innovations," featuring artwork by E. Michael Horn. Michael's work elevates common objects to the level of art forms, using a variety of materials. The exhibit will be on display in our Meeting Room during regular library hours from August 1st through 31st. The Friends of the Library sponsor a series of monthly art exhibits in our Meeting Room all year long. We encourage you to stop in and view Michael's exhibit and to attend the artist's reception on Sunday, August 3rd from 3:00 to 5:00 pm.
